Hello! I am Rachel Johannsen, Certified Permaculture Designer, backyard gardener, restorer of natural habitats, mother to two daughters, and caretaker of many chickens. I am passionate about locally and sustainably sourced food. What better way to know where your food comes from, when it’s grown by YOU in your own backyard! I am here to help make this dream come true for as many people as possible.
I teach gardening through a “permaculture” lense. What does that mean?! Permaculture is a way of designing systems that are efficient, effective, and most importantly keep in mind three ethics: caring for people, caring for the earth, and using any excess of waste. For example, I create gardens using materials that are thought of as “waste”, I repurpose many materials instead of buying new ones, and I allow my garden to be a space insects and other small critters (to a point). When one becomes more connected with the soil, water, and the organisms that live in the garden, it becomes more fun, therapeutic, and wholesome as you harvest food that is truly nourishing.
I want to share my knowledge and continue learning with others. That is why I have started my business, Regenerative Gardens. I hope to teach and connect with other gardeners, both beginners and seasoned. There is always more to learn while gardening and it is a beautiful process that should be shared with all.
